New Delhi, 22 November 2013: In the Hero Hockey India League Closed Bid today, six franchises picked up a total of 49 Indian and overseas players for the second season of the Hero HIL at Hotel The Lalt in New Delhi.
Talented Indian junior Ramandeep Singh was the top pick of the day and went for USD 81000 to Uttar Pradesh Wizards. Ramandeep Singh who scored his maiden goal in his debut match at the 9th Men’s Asia Cup, has also scored six goals in the 3rd Sultan of Johor Cup 2013.
Amongst the overseas players Ryan Archibald went for USD 71,000 to Kalinga Lancers.
Indian forward Nikin Thimmaiah got the second highest bid amongst the domestic players for USD 59000 and was also bought by Uttar Pradesh Wizards.
Out of the total 154, the list of 49 players who were sold in the bid includes 28 Indians and 21 overseas players. The newly introduced franchise Kalinga Lancers from Odisha bought 24 new players while Ranchi Rhinos bought 1 player, Dabur Mumbai Magicians 11 players, Uttar Pradesh Wizards 4 players, Jaypee Punjab Warriors 5 players and Delhi Waveriders 4 players.
The six franchises spent USD 1.37 million to buy 49 players from Australia, New Zealand, Spain, Argentina, Ireland, England, South Africa and India.
Amongst the other Indian junior players Defender Gurjinder Singh was picked by Dabur Mumbai Magicians for USD 56,000, forward Affan Yousuf picked by Jaypee Punjab Warriors for USD 35,000
Hockey India Secretary General and Hero Hockey India League Chairman Dr. Narinder Batra firstly welcomed on board Kalinga Lancers the new franchisee. “It is a great to see that promising junior players have been bought by franchises at higher than the expected amounts which is a good sign for the future of Indian hockey” he said.
In the trading window which was opened from 19 August to 30 September, Dabur Mumbai Magicians traded two players Sandeep Singh and Satbir Singh to Jaypee Punjab Warriors.
