Jaypee Punjab Warriors’ Australian forward Jamie Dwyer believes that the Hero Hockey India League will transform traditional hockey into professional hockey and it will take the sport to a new level. The Marquee Player was also very pleased that players from around the world will get good rewards for their skills.
“It’s great that players are getting paid to play. The sport has been amateur for too long now and the Hero Hockey India League is going to change that,” Dwyer told newspaper Mail Today in an interview.
“I think the Hero Hockey India League is what world hockey needed. The competition will be like a major international tournament, you have the best 50 international players playing and obviously all the good Indian players,” stated the Australian, who fetched US$ 78,200 at the HIL Auction held last month.
Dwyer accepted the fact that Indian hockey has been asleep in the last few years but the Hero Hockey India League will show India’s fast and entertaining hockey to the world. “Traditionally hockey has been a very big success in India. It has been asleep in the last 10 years but it is about to be woken up. This tournament will show every Indian that hockey is a skillful, fast and entertaining game,” he said.
The Australian also predicted that more people will play the sport because of the Hockey India League andIndia will become successful again in the near future.
