New Delhi, 12 August 2015: With the option of retaining a maximum of 3 Indian and 3 foreign players, the DoIT Sports Management owned Dabang Mumbai has retained 3 players while choosing to let go of the rest of the players in the team. The released team also includes the name of Tom Boon who was regarded as the biggest catch last season when the franchisee bought him for USD 103,000. The retained players include the name of Indian defender and penalty corner specialist Harmanpreet Singh, goalkeeper David Harte and defender Jeremy Hayward.
Realizing, that denying the opponents easy goals would be the key, the franchisee has retained the core group of defence. All the three players worked in complete harmony to ensure that the penalty corners were converted and the goal post remained protected by the strong line of defence.
Last season, while all eyes were on Tom Boon to come out and deliver, it was the young Harmanpreet Singh who left many awe struck as he effortlessly converted the penalty corners, giving his team the much desired goals. This was further complemented with his strong play at the defence chain as he with his skilful game gave the opponents a tough time to score on the opportunities that they created. What worked further in favour of the team and the defence line was the manner with which Jeremy Hayward and Harmanpreet Singh played in tandem. Their cohesion at the D proved to be a big asset for the team and complemented the efforts towards keeping the opponents strikers at bay.
The young Irish goalkeeper, David Harte who was bid and bought by the franchisee, proved his worth under the bar as the League progressed. With his unique and quick reaction time he went on to save many goals for his team, leaving the spectators awe- struck and wanting for more. His crucial saves helped contain the pressure on the forwards as they looked at scoring the important goals.
Speaking on the players that are retained by the franchisee, Viren Rasquinha, Strategic Advisor and Mentor, Dabang Mumbai said “It was a well deliberated decision keeping in mind the contributions of all the three retained players from last season. Each player adds a unique element to the team composition. Given Harmanpreet’s brilliance as a drag flicker and a defender; he has a bright future and we are happy to have him in our team this year as well. Clearly, David Harte and Jeremy are international stalwarts and were an easy choice for us. I am confident we will work towards setting up a strong core for the team in addition to these players and build a winning team for the upcoming season.”
Speaking on continuing to represent Dabang Mumbai, Harmanpreet Singh said “The decision to retain me showcases the franchisee’s trust in my capabilities on the field. This is a huge motivation for me and I am aiming to take my game a step higher and will give my best for the team. Jeremy and I share a good coordination on the field, understanding each other’s play and how best to support David under the bar. I am looking forward to the next season and the new team that is going to get formed post the auctions. ”
