New Delhi, 29 January 2015: Playing the first match on their home turf, Delhi Waveriders is all geared up to take on Jaypee Punjab Warriorstomorrow at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, New Delhi. While the crowd will be seen cheering for the Champions led by Sardar Singh, Jamie Dywer and team will not allow this to deter their good play and coordination on the field.
Both the teams last met at the finals of the second edition of Hero Hockey India League 2014 where Delhi Waveriders defeated Jaypee Punjab Warriors to claim the prestigious title. This year around while Delhi will yet again look at achieving the same feat, Punjab, with its formidable line-up, will aim to defeat the hosts tomorrow.
Of the three matches played in the League till now, Jaypee Punjab Warriors has won two and drawn one and are comfortably sitting on the top of the points table. On the other hand Delhi Waveriders who have played two matches and have drawn both will be eyeing for a win and claiming full 5 points.
Speaking on the sidelines of the upcoming match, Head Coach of Jaypee Punjab Warriors, Barry Dancer said, “Our performance in the previous matches has been great and we aim to maintain our winning streak. Our team co-ordination has been excellent and has helped us to deliver favourable results. The aim has always been to reach the semi finals and then see how to take it further from there.”
Aiming for a good show tomorrow, Captain of Jaypee Punjab Warriors, Jamie Dwyer said, “We are very happy and confident on the two back to back wins this season. This has boosted our self-belief and has made us more determined to give our best performance in the upcoming match. We aim to give a challenging fight to Delhi Waveriders by maintaining our momentum and high spirit in order to win the clash. We are working on our attack and we aim to keep them busy on their D tomorrow”
Speaking on the clash tomorrow, Head Coach Cedric D’Souza, Delhi Waveriders said, “We have analysed ourselves in terms of how we have played in the past matches. We are also continuously working on rectifying the mistakes we committed and ensure that we do not repeat them in future. The third season of HHIL will be very strong in terms of balance in the teams as every team has prepared themselves and gauged thoroughly so as to lift the Trophy. I look forward to the match tomorrow and hope the team continues its winning streak and retains the title.”
Delhi Waveriders will take on Jaypee Punjab Warriors on 30 January 2015 at 1900 HRS IST, at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, New Delhi.
